Before you pay

A specimen invoice.

This is what an invoice from GrowMint Media looks like: who it comes from, what it says, and what to check before you pay. It is the second of four, the one you pay to book the build, for the same invented business as the specimen scope.

Specimen, not payable

In short, if you are outside India

One amount, in your own currency (in US dollars in New Zealand and the Gulf), with no Indian tax added. You pay it by an ordinary bank transfer to the account printed on your real invoice. Any tax in your own country is for your accountant; the box near the end says how it usually works in the UK. The rest is what Indian law asks an invoice to show.

Invented, and not payable

The client, the dates and the exchange rate are made up, and no bank details or registration numbers are printed here. On your real invoice the account details for your currency sit where this one says so, and the invoice reaches you only from aditya@growmintmedia.in.

What every invoice carries, and why

Indian GST law (rule 46 of the CGST Rules 2017) sets out what a tax invoice must show. Each item is on the invoice above.

  1. Who it is from.

The supplier’s name, address and GST number. On ours, GrowMint Media, with Aditya’s legal name as proprietor; check the number on the GST portal’s public search.

  2. A number and a date.

One unbroken series, QB/2026-27/001 onwards (begun under the quietlybuild name; the series carries on), never reused, and restarting each April.

  3. Who it is to.

Your name and address, the country the service goes to, and the place of supply.

  4. What it is for.

A description and the service code (SAC 998314), the quantity and the taxable value.

  5. The tax.

The rate and the amount. For a client outside India it is zero, and the invoice says so in the words the rule gives.

  6. A signature.

    Aditya’s, as proprietor.

Outside India, every invoice is in your own currency, in the amounts fixed in the agreement on the day you signed. In New Zealand and the Gulf, you pay in US dollars by bank transfer or Wise.

No invoice comes before a call.

Half an hour on video, free, before you pay anything. Calls on weekdays, 15:30–19:00 India time, plus Tuesday and Thursday 06:00 and Thursday 19:30.
