Why your ads aren't converting — and how to fix it

By Aditya Vashistha, Performance & Search Lead · 9 June 2026 · 6 min read

When someone tells us their ads "aren't working," the cause is almost never mysterious. It's one of five things — and they're worth checking in order, because fixing them out of order wastes money.

1. The offer

No amount of clever targeting saves a weak offer. Before you touch the campaign, ask: is what we're selling genuinely compelling to the person seeing it? A sharper offer — clearer outcome, less risk, a real reason to act now — will out-perform any optimisation you can make inside the ad account.

2. The targeting

You can have the best ad in the world in front of the wrong people. If you're reaching too broad an audience, or one that simply isn't in buying mode, results will be soft no matter what. Tighten who sees it before you blame the creative.

3. The creative

You have about three seconds. If the first frame, line or image doesn't stop the scroll and speak to a real problem, nothing after it matters. Most underperforming accounts don't have a bidding problem — they have a "nobody's stopping to look" problem. Test more hooks, not more keywords.

4. The landing page

This is the most common silent killer. The ad promises one thing; the page says another — or loads slowly, buries the offer, or asks for too much. The message a person clicked on must be the first thing they see when they land. Match them, remove friction, and make the next step obvious.

5. The tracking

If your conversions aren't being measured properly, you're flying blind — optimising toward the wrong actions and unable to tell a winning ad from a losing one. Before scaling anything, confirm the pixel and conversion events actually fire. You can't fix what you can't see.

Diagnose in order

Work top to bottom: offer, targeting, creative, landing page, tracking. The problem is usually higher up the list than people expect — and it's usually cheaper to fix than "spend more." If you'd like us to run through your account and tell you exactly where it's leaking, that's what a free teardown is for.
